When Mae Holland is hired to work for the Circle, the world’s most powerful internet company, she feels she’s been given the opportunity of a lifetime. The Circle, run out of a sprawling California campus, links users’ personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system, resulting in one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency. As Mae tours the open-plan office spaces, the towering glass dining facilities, the cozy dorms for those who spend nights at work, she is thrilled with the company’s modernity and activity. There are parties that last through the night, there are famous musicians playing on the lawn, there are athletic activities and clubs and brunches, and even an aquarium of rare fish retrieved from the Marianas Trench by the CEO. Mae can’t believe her luck, her great fortune to work for the most influential company in America–even as life beyond the campus grows distant, even as a strange encounter with a colleague leaves her shaken, even as her role at the Circle becomes increasingly public. What begins as the captivating story of one woman’s ambition and idealism soon becomes a heart-racing novel of suspense, raising questions about memory, history, privacy, democracy, and the limits of human knowledge.

Waiting on Wednesday – Fairest

This Wednesday, I’m waiting on…

Title:  Fairest
Author:  Marissa Meyer
Publish Date:  January 27, 2015
Series:  The Lunar Chronicles #3.5
Genre:  YA Dystopian, Science Fiction

In this stunning bridge book between Cress and Winter in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles, Queen Levana’s story is finally told.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,

Who is the fairest of them all?

Fans of the Lunar Chronicles know Queen Levana as a ruler who uses her “glamour” to gain power. But long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress, Levana lived a very different story – a story that has never been told . . . until now.

Marissa Meyer spins yet another unforgettable tale about love and war, deceit and death. This extraordinary book includes full-color art and an excerpt from Winter, the next book in the Lunar Chronicles series.

I’m a huge fan of The Lunar Chronicles, and I don’t expect to be disappointed by Fairest. Unfortunately, this book doesn’t come out until January, so I’m stuck waiting for a while. *cue world’s tiniest violin* Fairest is going to be the untold story of Queen Levana, the Lunar queen who glamors everyone into thinking she’s beautiful and obeying her every command. What makes that evil queen so evil? Why is she so obsessed with her beauty? I expect all these questions and more about The Evil Queen to be answered in Fairest.

If you haven’t already read The Lunar Chronicles (Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter [coming 2015]) this is a series of sci-fi/dystopian fairy tale retellings in a futuristic world where humans have succeeded in colonizing the moon, branching off into a race called the “Lunars.” On earth, many humans–called cyborgs–live with mechanical body parts, and are given very little as far as respect and human rights. Each book weaves the story of a fairy tale princes into the setting (starting with Cinderella). If you haven’t read this series, definitely check it out!

Will you be reading Fairest in January? What are you waiting on this Wednesday?
